Good but could be better.

I watch movies on a weekly basis and each week I had seen this promotion (since October of 07); so I thought this must be an Oscar contender but after watching it I have to disagree.
This movie described in one word is "cute. It is a nice sentimental story with very strong performances.
The major issue of the movie maybe its sentimentality. It was just too good to be true and to hard to believe. I know this was based on a true story but I had wished that the director would have at least made it seem more realistic with a few plot changes.
Another issue of the movie is its unfocused plot. It never settles on a single issue of importance. It just simply jumps around and around. In other words it tries much to be more than it actually is. This movie mixes mental illness with drinking and love and responsibility together in an overwhelming way.
In conclusion I would recommend this movie for Robert Downey Jr and Jamie Foxx fans. It is a good movie worth a watch but it may not please every single fan of Tropic Thunder or IronMan that are used to fast action paced scenes. This is more so a spiritual movie that demands full attention. It may not win any awards (and rightfully so) but just for its strong performances, I'd recommend it. |
