As the daughter and sister of a schizophrenic mother and brother - I think I have a pretty good idea of what crazy looks like.
Finally, Hollywood is on track in portraying the life of the mentally ill as it really is ~ Too dramatic at times?? Not at all! I have LIVED,LOVED,and at times HATED witnessing the devastating behavior this diease has wrecked and ravaged the tortured souls of my beloved mother and brother!
I know from first hand experience, the fear Steve Lopez felt when Mr. Ayres showed his "out of control scary side" - I survived two beatings at the hands of my mom's "out of control scary side".
In offering a comparison; I had so much hope and ended up so disappointed with the movie, "A Beautiful Mind" because its portrayal in overcoming this diease should have been stressed this man was AN ANOMOLY. The Soloist puts that film to shame.
Thank you Mr. Lopez for bringing Mr. Ayres' and his sister's story too, of his struggles, his triumphs and his heart to the screen for others to have a sense of what a beautiful mind is really all about~
I finally feel like for the first time in my life - finally - somebody got it right - and my catharsis is good.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! |
