This is a complex movie that forces the viewer to really think. It's one of the best movies I've seen all year. I saw this movie with a movie club and we have a discussion after the movies. I have to admit that having 150 people deconstruct the movie helped me since I never would have picked up all the clues. The girl dies at the end. The life you see played by Uma Thurman is her life flashing before her eyes. Thus the title, the life before her eyes. Here are the clues the director drops in the movie: the Zombies song, "She's Not There" plays on the car radio when they're in the car and the girl says she doesn't like the song, it's also the tune the mailman is whistling when the girls are by the pool; at the end of the movie Uma Thurman puts a rose on HER desk, not her friends desk; and the killing spree occurs in today's time frame - cell phones weren't ubiquitous and computers weren't in all the schools in the early 1990's. I hope you enjoyed the movie as much as I did! |
