The movie reminded one of mandingo,a forbidden love between vampire and enslaved lycan(Werewolf), the story of Moses without the baby carriage, and toss in a evolutionary war in a country side that was waiting for their Che Guevara.
Viktor the elitist vampire can't stand guys with hair on their back, unless they are his slaves. His daughter, Sonya falls for the guy(Lucian) who starts the new trend and so the drama begins.
Lucian the enslaved lycan, plays the role of house werewolf. He is a new breed of werewolf, Viktor witness his miraculous birth first hand as a human baby from a Werewolf, and kills Lucian mother and raises the child. Lucian is able to convert from werewolf to human, as the werewolves before him once bitten had to remain in the mode of a werewolf.
Viktor raises Lucian and realizes even as a young boy he is stronger than humans. And eventhough Lucian is not one of their kind, the vampires especially Viktor are pleased with Lucian fixing their weapons, operating weaponry and protecting the castle/plantation. In fact the vampires want to create a secondary class of werewolves that guard them during the day. The vampires place a round metal collar that has spikes on the inside, if the lycans go into werewolf mode the spikes on the inside of the collar will pierce the neck of the werewolf and kill them instantly.
And eventhough Lucian is Viktors favorite(like a son) he too has a collar around his neck. Lucian is warned not to whistle at any of the vampiresses, and the future will be bright(dark).
Of course Lucian just can't do that, and neither can Sonya, Viktor's adrenaline driven inter species loving daughter, who just has to challenge her father. After having their affair, Both Sonya and Lucian dream of running away to Canada, or Norway, they know it probably wont happen, since Lucian is a slave but he has a key to the collar around his neck.
However, one day Lucian fearing for Sonya's safety when she travels just pass the railroad tracks into his old boodocks hood, goes after her. The werewolves jack Sonya's peoples carriage and Lucian turns into a werewolf to save her. Some of the old werewolf homies recognize Lucian, and Lucian has instant clout in the hood.
The vampires come to take Sonya back, and they beat Lucian for leaving the castle, and going against the masters wishes. After more whipping back at the castle from the vampires, Lucian realizes that werewolves are humans too, and wants them to have freedom. And the battle begins.
The movie is well acted, the Actor that played Viktor, needs better lines, only because he can deliver them.
The only black character who is a werewolf in the movie doesn't die, but his role is very token, just like in the other movies. They could have done a better job of portraying him as a better right hand man to Lucian, even as a werewolf he is still very human, and he fights against becoming a werewolf.
Sonya, needed less botox in her upper lip. She's beautiful and a good actress but the botox lip hampered her range. In all her scenes its like the lips takes over.
The movie needed more in terms of writing and moving the story with interest, musical scores, and while you could see the pain in Lucian the rest of the movie did not follow.
Overall the movie was ok, and has better fans than it realizes. |
