First off, if you didn't like the first two, don't bother with the third. If Underworld isn't your type of move, why would you think the sequels would be.
If you did like the first two, this movie did what so few third movies do - it made the first two better.
The plot is no surprises. If you saw the first two, you really know the story and how its going to end.
But, that won't make the story unenjoyable. The action is fanciful and the weapons are flights of fantasy. This is a movie about Vampires and Werewolves, if you're looking for historical accuracy, um, yeah...
The actors played their parts well. Viktor is deplorable. Nighy did a great job reminding us why the character is slime.
Rhona Mitra as Sonja is almost a medieval clone of Kate Beckinsale's Selene. But she's supposed to be, (ok so Selene is supposed to be reminiscent of Sonja, but its difficult to put into words due to the third movie being the prequel) so it works.
It's shot heavily in the shades of blue that the original was done it, especially when we are in the Vampire Castle.
This movie is exactly what it should be. Its prefect for what it's trying to do. This is assuming its trying to tell the story of the Rise of the Lycans in the Underworld universe. Therefore this is an 'A'.
It's not oscar worthy and won't appeal to everyone. It certainly will not disappoint the people who were apprehensive about the idea of a prequel, as I was. I doubt it will disappoint people who were looking forward to the prequel. It does its job and does it well. |
