This is based off a true story, but at least try to give justice to those who lived during those times.
The beginning which im guessing is supposed to be of Babi yar since it shows footage of the event, but to have soldiers drinking on the job, smiles all around. It emotionally primes you to be omg how horrible, and Screw these guys.
there were inaccuracies, this is holly wood but even you can make more of an effort. When a german officer is captured from a river patrol or whatever, he is brought back to be beaten to death by angry jews. Of course he is SS in smock and everything. Yet in the whole attack on the village, there all in Heer uniforms....
I had some big problems on the logistics side, more or less when stukas come bombing there "village". These things didn't just drop grenades....these were 50 lb, 250lb 500lb bombs. These were made to destroy tanks....not small puffs of smoke next to some one and they can run away free of wounds.
The attack at the end on the "survivors", you have your typical "stupid germans" sitting in the open on a knee firing, like a rev war scene. The Panzer Commander open top firing madly with an AAA mg, while not buttoned up....if the director gave a better impression that these were not extras, and one of the best trained military's at the time (this is supposed to be spring of 1942) And these jews over came them realistically, you would gain much a higher respect for what they did.
The over the top accents killed it at times but i do like how they spoke german or russian when among them, at least that added to a atmosphere.
Good movie for entertainment, but for the love of god do not come out of this thinking you know legitimate history. |
