The old saying is the movie is never as good as the book. This is often true in regards to fiction and is no different with non-fiction. I've read Defiance by Nechama Tec in 2-3 days as it was extremely interesting and powerful. The movie doesn't depict the facts accurately although my expectations were that it wouldn't. So much story to tell and so little time. Regardless, the story unfolds on the big screen in a manner that still holds your attention as it is so different from the normal story we here of how Jews went passively to their death. The acting is good with Schrieber and Craig of course being the strongest. I'm just curious to why Zwick changed certain aspects of the story that were strong enough in content to stand true to fact. In particular, Tuvia (Craig) is certainly the strongest of the three brothers in regards to leadership in the book, but at times to downplayed in this regard in the movie. No matter in regards to viewing this movie as a form of entertainment. It is effective and important. Recommended.
