This is the 1st time in years I've laughed out loud in the movie theatre!!!! My almost 7 yr old and I looked at each other during the funny parts (there were many!) and we couldn't stop laughing. I was a little embarrassed to be a mom and laughing so loud, but I looked around and everyone else was too!
I cannot understand the critics reviews!???? This was a genuine family *comedy with heart.* As a mom I appreciated that the villains were such a caricature that they were not truly scary, while others were not truly villains but just needed a change of heart. When characters were mean to each other they were not downright nasty like in many family movies, and there was no bad language. Adam Sandler's character matured in this story, in which just a nice but immature guy became a true hero and gentleman. I appreciate when a character progresses in *any* movie, and this is a kid's film! Lastly, the "story" sections were beautifully done! The action shots, costuming, setting, and storyline worked together to engage the viewer in each storyline and made us truly root for the good guy (Skeeter as the good guy in each story.) I loved seeing Adam Sandler play a movie in which he was not a jerk or an idiot and hope we see more of that in the future. The acting was well done and each actor worked hard to convince viewers that they were that character and not a well-known actor. It was difficult at times to see Sandler as Skeeter and not Sandler, but Courtney Cox and Keri Russell were *very* convincing. Russell Brand did a hilarious job as Sandler's sidekick, though I wonder whether it required much acting on his part based on the little I know of him. This was not just a good kid's film but a good film for adults as well. I'd go see it without my kiddos even! :)
