Like most horror movie franchises, Saw has reached the point where it's getting ridiculous. For Friday The 13th it was pt. 5, for Halloween it was part 6, for Nightmare On Elm St. it was part 4. Yes, the traps in this one were a little weak, but that wasn't the worst problem. The plot was horrible, flashing back and forward from the previous four films (if you're gonna go see this one, make sure you watch all the others first). There was a subplot about the people playing the game, that made little sense, and everything happens so fast you don't care. The worst problem here was the way they screwed up the lore/chronology of the franchise. I won't give it away, but imagine if you're watching the Friday The 13th series. Originally Jason is JUST a normal boy who drowned, then he sees his mother killed so he starts doing the same. But what if in the next one they told you that Mrs. Voorhees really wasn't his mother. That she found him in the woods and raised him. And then in the next one, they tell you in addition to that, he's not human, that he crashed on the planet in a space. And the next time, they tell you he is human, but his father was actually Adolf Hitler and sent him into space because he didn't want the allied forces to protect him. And then you find out he's actually a demon from another dimension, and then,...hopefully you get the point. This is the last Saw I'll pay to see in the theatres. I'll wait for all the other ones on cable. |
