This movie will pull at your heart strings. Keira Knightly was exquisite, the actors were all great, but if you don't like sad movies, you should not watch this. I gave it a B overall because of the sadness, even though it is all based on a true story, and it was acted and directed great, it is still a tragedy. Shakespeare couldn't have written a better tragedy. My mood was ruined after watching this because it was so heart-wrenching. It was so good until the Duke forbade the Duchess from seeing her one true love or else he would take the kids from her. So she had to choose her family or her love. What is ironic is that her lover went on to become the prime minister so he would have had enough power to prevent the Duke from keeping her children. It really shows how women were treated as second class citizens and really had no rights. The men could do anything to them without any consequence. That was so sad too. |
