I went to see this film with a friend of mine yesterday and we both walked out of the theater feeling like we were being suffocated. NO -- not because the film was bad; quite the contrary. The film was extremely well done. It was the oppression of women during that period that makes you sympathize not just with The Duchess, but basically with the plight of all the women in those times (and sadly, reminds you that some women in the world continue to live under societal oppression even in this day and age). If anything, I came out of the movie theater thanking the The Almight One, that I'm a single woman in a Western Country during the 21 century! I definitely give this film a THUMBS UP, but I advise you to have some Kleenex tissue on hand! |
