I watched the original version when I was a young boy and it was scary to me then, full of drama and tension. This remake version did not have the same impact on me this time around. Perhaps it is because I am older, perhaps because I have since been exposed to Mega Sci-Fi films such as Tom Cruise and War of the Worlds. This version at times seemed to “stand still”.
The story itself is not perfect and at times it is too slow for a Sci-Fi movie. Some of the character development is a little shallow and I don’t want to do a spoiler here but if you see it you will know what I mean. Overall the movie is worth the price of admission and worth spending a couple of hours watching. It is thinking mans Sci-Fi flick and the visuals have enough interest to keep you in your seat. In summary your expectations for this remake should not be a “War of the Worlds”, instead I thought it was more like a two hour Twilight Zone done for the big screen. If you are into fast paced action and outlandish special effects, this film might not do it for you. On the other hand it can be enjoyed in a more subtle way |
