i can definitely relate to this documentary. i was about 7 when my family and another family crossed that mekong river @ about 4.30am (1979). the two canoe style boats carrying the 12 (6 on each) people were so small they almost drowned. i remebered it well because my mom was praying the whole time we were on the boat. i didn't really understand where we were going and why we have to go. i couldn't imagine how terrified it was for my mom & dad.
i was disappointed that the documentary didn't focus much about the CAMPS in thailand. i think the story should come from there so they know how NERAKOON(betrayed) it was to treat their mom like that or the US government that is. people don't really know much about the struggling for families once they got to thailand and were put into refugee camps thru out. i remembered my family stayed @ 7 different camps (Thabor, So Gor Tor, CRS, NongKhai, Panatnikom, Transit,and finally Bataan, Philliphine).
we got to america the winter of 1985....anyways, watching this documentary reminded me of the past. great job ai Thavi (ai = brother) and ms. Ellen.
