I have loved her music for years and years but I knew basically nothing about her except that she was close friends with someone else I adore...Dylan. This film is like a home made scrap book...Odd little pieces of things and memories that mean something to Patti but often don't mean much to us the audience. But I am a writer and creative and I wanted to know more aobut her so I enjoyed it alot. It was like a trip to her attic. Some crap, some beauty and some spider webs needing to be sifted through to find something interesting but I found it fascinating and touching. I liked her before but now I really like her even more than I expected. Patti Smith introducing us to her parents. I loved that! I love my family alot too and to see an icon hanging out in the backyard talking to her daddy was cool! I lost my younger sister and she lost her younger brother. I understood exactly what she meant when she said her heart grew bigger and she now has his qualities and is richer because of it. I feel the same way. We miss them forever but we also take on parts of them and become them in a way. I loved seeing her as a mother with her kids. I loved this film. I am going to see it again. I am so glad she made it and the way she loved Allen Ginsberg( so did I) and others and goes to their graves touched me. I do that too. A wonderful musician but also a woman with passion, drive, creativity, spunk and a huge, huge heart. Go see it!!!!! |
