I just feel the need to represent those of us that actually enjoyed this film. So many reviewers have commented/complained about the camera quality/work. It's one thing to not enjoy watching a movie that is shot hand-held style, but it's another to say it is bad/poor camera work. This is the style they were obviously going for and I think it was done quite masterfully. You feel like you are actually someone attending the events or following these characters around the house like a family member, which is appropriate with how many people are always around. If they were going for a slick, Hollywood style they would have done just that. It's supposed to be a dirty, intimate portrait of a real, relate-able event - a painful event in a lot of ways. The acting is superb without question. Yes, for those that love movies like Bad Boys II, or Transformers, the pace of the movie and certain extended scenes may seem unbearable. However, have you ever been at an event, or more specifically a wedding, that seemed too long, or boring, and you just wanted to leave - I know I have. I think it's supposed to be "real" in that respect, but the thing is I wasn't bored at all. In fact it completely engaged me pretty much all the way through. If you're not a fairly patient movie goer, you probably won't appreciate it. It helps to be a huge music fan because music was a big influence on this family and they were not afraid to admit it and use and use and use it during the film - huge smile on my face most of the time. It wasn't a perfect movie, but Anne Hathaway's performance is worth the ticket price alone, and the story and other characters are fantastic - truly! For those that are giving it a "D" or an "F" - don't be absurd. Obviously everyone has their own opinion and I appreciate that, but some of it is just complete ignorance! |
