Let me preface.....you would think after movies like Dark Knight and Iron Man that the powers that be would mave made this new Punisher a different movie. Of all the comic book heros the Punisher is easily the most believable. Christopher Nolan succeeded in making Batman believable dispite the fact it could not really happen.
Enter the Punisher...an opportunity to set up a franchise and make a good movie with sequel possibility. Instead they made what bordered upon cartoon and dark. The Punisher is essentially the same character as Batman but much more brutal and dark. The Punisher was dark don't get me wrong but the most memorable thing about the movie is the violence. The gore and deaths don't really do much to further the storyline but in fact takes the forefront. The villians were ridiculously over the top. I thought Ray Stevenson had the look but they didn't get give him much to work with....the movie was over the top and just disappointing. I am all about dark movies like the Crow but this movie was pretty laughable and two of my friends echo my sentiments. I understand the character and don't feel the story or direction did him justice or for that matter a future as a franchise. |
