Man. Wow. Well, first off, I am truly surprised at how many positive fan reviews this movie has received. A true fan will realize that the movie makers should have taken ANY story arc from the comic book issues (written by the great Garth Ennis) and make any of those stories ('The Slavers,' 'In the Beginning,' or 'Up is Down & Black Is White') the basis of the movie. Instead, the movie shares with the books the names of characters only. There are no valid ties to any of the intriguing stories in the books.
This movie was totally phoned in by all involved, and I blame the masterminds that put this tripe together. From the acting, to the dialogue & one-liners, to the characters themselves, the movie fails to deliver any merit (or class, even) that the books contain. Nothing. Simply put: This movie has no soul. I felt obligated to apologize to my girlfriend for having her sit through this muck ("Told you we should have seen 'Australia.'").
As a true fan, I am sick and disheartened at this sad attempt of a movie about a character I really like. It doesn't make sense why they would avoid the spectacular stories in the books and release this straight-up flith. As I watched the movie, I tried to find some salvation in it, but there really was nothing notable. Wait - there was one, quick scene that I did like: A cop tries to arrest a criminal with Frank standing near-by, and as the cop is about to handcuff the criminal, Frank shoots the criminal's head off. (So at least there is one good scene, right...?)
So, in my opinion, I say don't waste your time or your money. If you want to see this, wait until it is featured in the Redbox DVD Rentals for $1. Have your friend use a free rental coupon, borrow it from him, watch it, then let him return it the next day. That's probably your best bet.
Quentin, Richard, Ridley, Chris Nolan, - SOMEBODY! - please, do this franchise some justice and create the next Punisher movie! I beg of you. Thanks for your time. |
