I like Spike :Lee...I wanted this movie to be a break out film for him but sadly he had a script that was stunted, actors that deklivered their lines like amatures, an over abundance of cliche stereotypes with the back solders, the Italian town folk (what no 3-dimentional folks with any cultural interest or artistic talents?, gratitus nudity (Why?) and stupid sexual scene(like no woman can resist a black man as a stud lover!) and unrealistic military fighting scenes that were laughable...one grenade was thrown by American when they were hanging all over there fighting gear!...yet not one ammo box was in tow? The child was no actor as was the chocolate giant...where is Forrest W. when you need him?
Other star cameos were throw aways (although they may have ended up on the editing floor to trim this film down to the ass breaking 2:40!) ...I have to say rent it! No wonder no major critics reviewed this film by the opening on Friday except for Ebert which there is a questionable relationship he has with Spike. Also race card? Why so heavy handed? Unrealistic scene that is laughable in the southern cafe...like they could of got away with that with auto weapons pulled! |
