Saw the head in the fishnet on the trailer, which intrigued me--so I spoofed the flick. At first I thought, "Ah oh, one of those, Feel sorry for me cause I'm black films," and yeah, there was a little of that, but the story got much much bigger about halfway through. The old world Italians relationships with the Buffalo soldiers was very compelling and believable. I was crying a few times during the movie, which I never do, and laughing, and horrified, and all that. In short, Miracle at St. Anna took me away from my problems for two hours and allowed me to live as a black soldier---which for being a white former Marine, was interesting and new. Thanks Spike!! |
