Annoying premise

I watched this movie last night and what I found painful about the experience is having to suspend disbelief in the premise that this aged, self-important, misogynist held total control over the emotions of a gorgeous blond a fraction of his age. Perhaps if I were in the advanced age group of the protagonist I might have identified more with the fantasy this film is trying to promote, which I guess would be somewhat typical of the older male generation, however as I am somewhat younger I found the story to be more pitiful than entertaining. It is an interesting reflection of the differences in social mores between the US and France, however. Whereas this intellectual / sexual paragon, who has very young women falling at feet is apparently revered in the French culture, in the US he would be perceived as a borderline degenerate. |
