I just came back from the midnight showing of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and I must say that when the movie ended my overall assessment of the film was "It was good but I didn't like the ending." Next came the ride home, where I (and everyone else) discusses what they liked/disliked about the film they just saw. As I got closer and closer home, I started to fall into a slightly frenzied state regarding the holey plot and the seemingly abrupt ending. Granted, this is a movie about robot-aliens from outer space so one can't assume that the plot is going to make complete sense, but there were points in this film where it seemed like the writing staff had a bunch of puzzle pieces that didn't quite fit and they just kinda slammed them together.
Upon arriving home, I read alot of user and critic reviews and the consensus is that the majority of critics hated it while the majority of every day Joe's fell head over heels for it. Neither party is completely wrong in my opinion, but each seemed to be more focused on different aspects of the movie.
The critics really, really seemed to despise the plot (and the acting). And although the overall story seems to make some kind of sense, its the points in between that, if you are truly interested in the plot, will leave you saying "Wow, they made it that easy huh?" and "Seriously?" The worst thing is that certain things happened to be on certain articles of clothing and in certain places at certain times, and none of it would make any sense at all until the story reveals that *gasp* it was all part of some divine plan.
The normal not-so-critical people thought this movie was amazing-- and if you really think about it, just the fact that the CGI could be so intricate alone makes this film incredible. There's tons of action and noises and things that go boom. Oh yeah, and did I mention MULTIPLE scenes that include Megan Fox running in slow mo, cleavage all over the place?
All in all, your friends are going to tell you this movie was awesome, and you're going to go see it. I'm not really sure if Bay wants us to take this film seriously, but either way if you can't get over the plot you can still enjoy the battle scenes (and Megan Fox). Oh yeah, don't forget to look out for the "magical cast," it appears without warning right before your very eyes!
