One day later and I'm still in shock.

I happened to be invited to watch this movie with someone, thinking, Kate Winslet - why not? I cannot even express how happy I am that I saw it. I was moved to tears several times, spending nearly the entire final half of the movie with the sniffles. And as wonderful an actress we all already knew Kate Winslet is, we would be hard-pressed to find a movie that showcases her extraordinary talent quite as well as this one does. Her ability to portray a dozen different emotions at once makes it easy for the audience to sympathize with her story. There were actually a few instances where just the look on her face alone, her performance alone, brought a lump to my throat. I walked out of this movie shell-shocked. It's probably one of the best - if not the best - pictures I've seen in years. And Kate Winslet proves herself to be up there on a pedestal with some of the heavyweights of cinema, not just American or British, but everywhere. Strong performances as well by David Kross and Ralph Fiennes. This film is sure to snag whatever awards it's nominated for - if it doesn't, serious doubts would be raised in my mind whether the people voting for these awards really understood, or could really appreciate, a true cinematic gem. We've struck gold with this film. Take a couple of hours, see this movie. I can guarantee that by the end, you'll be glad you did. I was. |
