First, let me say how disappointed I am with the interviewers when they interview Lisa Ray (Miriam) and ask "What was it like playing a lesbian?" If they had seen the movie, they would know she does NOT Play a lesbian. She plays a straight woman that falls in love with another woman, who happens to be a lesbian. I word it that way because while Sheetal's character was gay, she does not use that to pursue Lisa's character. In other words, you don't hear her professing her gay-ness every other word nor does she try to persuade Miriam that she should try being with a woman. She simply allows Miriam to fall in love with her on her own merits. And to me, that's the puriest form of love.

Secondly, I love this movie because many woman can relate to their struggle. It's a story about a woman allowing herself to fall in love with another woman despite the external issues of it being unacceptable and life-threatening as well as her own internal issues. There are many women that can relate because not all gay women started out "knowing" they were gay from birth. In fact, quite the contrary. As far as they knew, they were straight and had never even had dreams of being with a woman until one comes along and they don't seem as opposed to their attraction to them as they thought they would be and allow themselves to take the journey of love despite the odds. It is then that they ultimately "discover" they are gay. Plus I like the courage that Sheetal's character has, the courage to stand up and be herself in a world that is very unforgiving and opposed to not only being gay but a woman having strength and courage as well. So this story of Miriam's journey is very fitting, appropriate, and real and I commend Shamim for having the courage to write it and turn it into a film.
