So I am watching the credits of "Frost/Nixon" and looking to see who played Pat Nixon. It wasn't a very big part but the movie tried to use her to create some touching moments. I was thinking it would be some semi-well-known actress in the Lois Smith/ Rosemary Harris category. Then the name Patty McCormack rolls by. "Patty McCormack?" I thought, "Wasn't she the Bad Seed?" I clicked on the "cast and credits" here on yahoo movies and sure enough, it's the same Patty McCormack!
"The Bad Seed" is 1954 play that was made into a 1956 movie about this lovely little blonde-haired girl who is a sociopathic murderer. Patty played the pig-tailed demon-child, got an Oscar nomination, and has had a journeyman's career as an adult. And now she's kind of old and playing Pat Nixon!
I tried to put the link to the trailer from "The Bad Seed" here, but yahoo says it's a word that is too long. Sorry. You can go to ****.com and put "Bad Seed Trailer" in the search box if you are curious. It's a wild melodrama that's sort of camp by now.
And oh yeah..."Frost/Nixon." It was good, but so SAFE. A well-executed formula. Langella was good and so was Michael Sheen who is getting overlooked again. I bet his day will come. He deserves it. |
