This Austrian movie won the 2007 Oscar for BEST FOREIGN FILM. Everything about it is top notch.
It deals with a ring of Jewish counterfeiters who are caught, and then placed in a concentration camp, where, they are forced to reproduce more money, this time for the German Reich. Which is worse? Making fake money or the crimes against humanity that the Nazis imposed upon the Jews? This is one holocaust film that doesn't present a one-sided view of either side. Many of the Jews in this film wore the "Green Triangle", which represented criminals, so they weren't exactly upstanding citizens who were yanked out of their homes and thrown into CC Camps. HOWEVER, what the Nazis did during WWII remains the greatest crime ever committed against humanity, so...apples and oranges here? No way. You really ought to see this movie. It is fascinating and riveting and profoundly moving. |
