Great but not typical death camp story

What an amazing based on a true story movie. Tension of being sent to a death camp, the will to survive at any cost, the seeking of softer work that leads others to finally recognize his true criminal talent. I was stunned when Sally gets to the death camp in Germany where he can fulfill his dream of counterfeiting the American dollar, albeit in hell like surroundings. The life he and his fellows led was soft and cushy compared to the rest of the inmates but death could come at any moment. The movie was only about 99 minutes but it felt longer...in a good way. After he gets arrested in the very beginning of the movie the tension is nearly unbearable throughout.
You will have mixed emotions here and there because much like the Pianist (a guy hides for a few years) the main character is not fighting the bad guys but is just trying to survive. It was good to see that in this movie others around him struggle with a variety of deep moral struggles and he reacts to it all. Moving and wonderful. |
