As a woman, I'm insulted by this movie...

I gave it an honest effort, but seriously why on earth would anyone mess with perfection by doing such a low brow remake? This crap is why all men think that women are so easily fooled and desperate for "chick flicks" to be made that we'll run out and see anything. Granted "Sex and the City" was worth it's weight in gold (despite the awful ending, which even People magazine agreed suckered the audience into watching Carrieās masochistic endeavors with Mr. Big once again), but "Sex and the City" was built for this century, and "The Women" is best left in another era....particularly in an era where women could be openly catty (without worrying about political correctness) and the idea of getting a divorce was something shocking. The original 1939 movie version of "The Women" was and still is perfection. I am a fan of Meg Ryan and all of these women for the most part, but let's face facts....this movie only works for those who haven't seen the original. For those who have, the idea of Eva Mendes stepping into a role once played by the legend Joan Crawford should tell you how bad the remake is going to be. I personally think they should have had Jennifer Aniston play Mary (Meg's character) and Angelina Jolie play Crystal (Eva's character). Now that would've been a remake to see!!! |
