I have always liked Luke Wilson as an actor. He has a special charm in him that allows him to be more than just a comedian. This charm has always been evident but it really shows through in this film. He is amazing and if he takes this new found talent and perfects it I would not be surprised if in a few years he is nominated for best actor at the Golden Globes or the Oscars.
I rally die not know what to expect when I rented this film. I knew it would be good because all of Luke's films are good but this film is great. The story is very touching and unique. There is a lot of symbolism in this film. The image of Jesus on the stucco may or may not have been what was directly helping people. I blieve that it wasn't directly helping people but instead was giving people the hope and the courage to get better themselves. This film is about hope and how one man Henry Poole has lost all hope because he is diagnosed with a deseas that will kill him soon. He has bad
childhood memories and believes his life was horrible. It takes the faith of his "crazy" neighbor and a women and her daughter to bring him hope and make him believe. He writes in his house "Henry Poole was here" but by the end of the film he changes it to "Henry Poole ishere".
This film is full of heart and emotion and really
lifts you up. It is no wonder it won a
presteguous award. The director makes the
image on the wall a character in the film by
filming from the image's point of view
periodically throughout the movie. I am
definitely going to buy this film and I highly recommend it. Listen to Ebert and disregard the other reviews. |
