Yesterday, I've been to see The Uninvited, the remake of 2003 South Korean film A Tale of Two Sisters (which was so well-directed that it was in US theaters.
The Uninvited had a different plot than ATOT, but nevertheless the same twist ending. It is much less violent than he original, and about the things that are scary is the twisting head of a redhead girl and Anna's mom and Boyfiend twisting their spines.
Whilst the original focused on the artistic ways of the movie, and ended up, to admit, a little stretchy and boring, this focused brilliantly on the plot, which was going pretty fast.
I WAS expecting the twist, having seen the original, but it was still jaw-opening.
So, it was more flawed than the original, but still outstanding. The story is weirder than the original (there's a difference) but still acceptable. The acting was memorable, esp. Emily and Elizabeth. You can see that they studied their ambiguous (you'll see what I mean) roles, obviously. I was surprised at the good direction of two new directors, the Guard Brothers. The visuals were flawed big time, but still enough to make you jump.
Overall, if I were to say that the original was 100% and compare this movie to it, I'd say 80%. So, it's a good movie, but just not as artistic and less meanigful as the original.
But if you've never seen the original, then you won't compare, and this will blow you off. |
