The friendship Nim has with the lizard and sea lion is truly beautiful and endearing. The scenery on the island is also terrific. I have never seen a film depict animal-human companionship so well so animal lovers and kids will dig this. Abigail Breslin is superb! Jodi Foster plays a far different character than ever before but the director over-plays the phobia thing to epic boredom. Too much time is spent watching Foster grimace leaving her house and into every other vehicle; plane, helicopter, boat, water, you name it. That got really old and Foster ain't lookin' too good close up. That being said the ending is a charmer and a crowd pleaser. It is worth seeing just because of all the natural beauty and positive portrayal of animals. Breslin's performance is also a big highlight. |
