Perfect family entertainment. Something for all levels. I really enjoyed it. It lampoons the '50s monster movies, almost reverently.
The story and acting are not too bad, and it does have a couple of moments. It's not a Summer Blockbuster, but it's far better than "Journey to the Center of the Earth," a recent 3-D movie whose writing and direction sucked holograms, and yet it made lots of money.
The 3-D effects are very good, and it uses the medium very well. The film print is good and the glasses work well. They aren't the old red-green type. They are a colorless polaroized type.
Aside from the one initial obligatory homage of an object gratuitously shooting out of the screen at you, they don't go for the cheap gimmic shots. But they do use the 3-D effect in a variety of ways, from subtle to dynamic. I recommend it heartily for that. Watch some of the online trailers and then imagine that they take place in a clear and richly-detailed three-dimensional space.
WELL worth the extra couple of bucks for the 3-D. |
