I WANTED to like this movie.
And I know YOU want to like it. Rent it if you must in a few months. But miss this one. You'll be thankful you did.
Sadly, I must report to you that I was as bored as bored could be. Specifically, the set design is dreary, messy, unchanging and dark. And stayed that way throughout the movie. Now, trying to get a cinematic point across aside, I found myself FEELING dirty, dreary, and depressed the entire time. I STILL have a hard time washing that filth off my consciousness.
Perhaps a clear ending would have been reason enough to go through the doldrums with the producers. I haven't read the book, but I FELT like they ran out of time and spliced together a basic rendition of the author's story as best they could. And missed the mark. I could be wrong, but the ending left me wanting some type of statement about SOMEthing. There was just...white clouds, white screen.
I like art house movies as much as the next English major. But I DO get tired of the artsy-farsty crap that can come out in the small houses. It's good when intelligence comes to the mainstream, but this wasn't it. It took up room from another lower budget-but greater quality film that could've taken up marquee space besides Eagle Eye.
Really, I know you want to like it. Rent it if you must in a few months. But miss this one. You'll be thankful you did. |
