I haven't read the book, so I don't know if it is anything like the book or not. However, just seeing the movie I think it was on par with Goonies, except instead of looking for buried treasure, they were looking for a way out.
The description wasn't exactly accurate, the girl didn't have to jimmy the lock, for it was already open. Something made clear in the first few minutes of the film.
I think it does show one thing though, no matter how innocent a population might be, there still a nature in man to be greedy or selfish, traits seen in some of the characters.
Whether it follows the book or not, I don't know, but as a story it stands by itself. It is unfortunate that movie makers seem to take some license to changing stories, there are also some things that don't relay to well from words in a book to the wide screen, but again, in my opinion the story stands on its own, the acting and all was believably done, and the visuals were great for the environment in which the story takes place. |
