There IS a certain personality type that will not like this movie- try to find something with a few good curse words thrown around randomly and some nice explosions and bloody beating scenes. This is what movies used to be about- escapism. For those of us who remember "Grease", and who discoverd "High School Musical" on televison, "Mama Mia" provides another sweet, goofy, fun, glorious way to spend an afternoon- especially if you remember dancing to Abba back in the day. NOBODY, and I mean nobody left their seats during the first credits at our theater, and the audience clapped at the end of the show. Somthing I've experienced rarely in my 40+ years of attending films. As for Streep and Brosnan- Meryl CAN sing! I am a singer and I was bowled over by what she did on "The Winner Takes It All". Pierce, well- I've always enjoyed just looking at that handsome man, and I give him credit for effort... they all looked like they were having a blast and it translated out to the audience. Yes, it was goofy at times, but that is what is was supposed to be. |
