WHO are these 'Critics' with their wack over- analysis?!? failed psychologists? failed journalists/political hacks? God forbid they are failed showbiz folk. It's A VERY GOOD ACTION FLICK! Much better than that DUMBA$$ NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, THAT's FOR SURE. When I saw this cast and surefire- action storyline do you think I waited for the critics reviews?! NOPE. I was at the first matinee. I was due for a day off, and I took it. I saw the movie. As I suspected I would - I enjoyed it. Ok, so I'm a self-aware regular movie-watcher (mostly via Netflix). I know what I like and who I like. Nobody disappointed - though I was a bit sad to see Ced in such a minor/typical role. But Ok - so his chances at bigger roles rise and fall -he still has work to do. Whatever. If you like good action and this type of storyline -it's worth the money - matinee or evening. I'm almost 40, fairly intellectual, educated, and choosey and it's really not often I get to recommend a good new release. Most of these new movies suck. This was fun. Now the Hollywood violence is definetely increased, pervasive, loud and graphic. But at least the story holds you. YES you know where it's going from the start. YES it reminds you of "Training Day" if you saw it. BUT there is some nuance - the young lad in TD was brand new - Keanu's character is seasoned and already dirty. But he's not happy with being dirty and wants out - and also clearly didn't mean for things to go this far. You can see yourself in a guy who got caught up in wanting to do good, making bad choices, seeing them spin out of control and being manipulated all the while. Depending on your outlook it's true -'we're all bad people.' OR maybe we're all good, and sometimes our bad choices spin out of control. BOTTOM LINE: the movie's worth the time. Did I mention this compared to "No Country" --which was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT after I saw it based on REVIEWS/OSCARS??? |
