Bad Cops, Good Movie

"Street Kings" is a solid, entertaining film. It's one of only a couple movies worth spending $10 on at the theaters right now.
At first you are to believe that Keanu Reeves is a dirty cop (which is somewhat true), but eventually he becomes hellbent on righting a wrong -- even at his own expense. But the wrong he tries to right is much more complicated than he ever imagined.
The story gets more interesting as it goes on and it does an excellent job of immersing the audience into the deep, complex plot.
Let's be clear: "Street Kings" is not up to the level of "Training Day" as there are no gritty, Academy Award performances to be found here (although Forest Whitaker always gives an above average effort), but it still doesn't mean that it's not a good movie.
Reeves does a nice job here in the lead role and is surrounded by a quality cast. The action scenes are a little overly shakey, but what can you do.
If you go in with the greatest-cop-movie-ever expectations, good luck with that. I think that bar would be a little high for it to reach. But if you are looking for an entertaining cop movie with a story that twists and turns, this would be a good choice. |
