Lately I havn't like a lot of what Hollywood has put out.
Australia is the exception.
I've looked at several of the reviews and was perplexed that so many people hated it. I suppose what it boils down to is whether you have a pre-disposition to like the elements that make up this film.
I am a fan of the "old movies" and there is definitely a large bit of that style in this flick. A lot of the lighting effects are reminiscent of a Humphry Bogart type film (Think Casablanca).
The second element is slightly more modern and its not subtle. Its the wild beauty of the Australian outback and all that that entails. If you like Crocidile Dundee and or The Man From Snowy River, as I do, then I suspect you'll like this movie.
Me, I've always been fascinated with the Aboriginal mythology that I first saw in Croc. Dundee.
The movie was long, but for me the time flew by.
There are definitely a lot of parts to this story, but I found that as I progressed through the film, I didn't want it to end.
The story line, though somewhat predictable delivered the moments that caused me to get ever so watery eyed.
I like to emmerse myself in the movies I see and imagine what it would have been like to walk in the shoes of the characters on screen. Thus, for me to like a movie, I have to like what happens in the movie.
This movie illustrates the hardship that both the natural elements, local corrupt politics and world war places on relationships.
If I had to define the singular message, it would be that love overcomes all obstacles.
This is a message that resonates with me and I give the movie high marks because of it. The actors delivered and the cinematography was breathtaking.
I consider it to be worth seeing in the theaters. |
