Larry the Cable Guy knows how to do one thing -be funny. He's at his weakest between those moments, and both he and the producers know this. That's why they used some veterans (like Eric Roberts) to even out the film.
Larry shines when he gets to be the clown, and he's one of the best at it. He's the everyman who does not take himself or the world around him too seriously. His character may be oblivious, but Larry (and we, along with him) are in on the joke.
It's funny. Yes, there is some bathroom humor. Yes there are some sexual references. It's still funny. It's not funny in a mean, dark way, making fun of people in hurtful jibes.
Larry's characters are guys who may not see the whole picture, but they know what's right and wrong. They do their best to do what's right, and somehow, they manage to win at the end. Plus, they make you laugh. What's wrong with that?
I liked this film (obviously). It was funny. I did not go with any expectations beyond that. I wanted to laugh for an hour and a half. That's what I got.
Nobody expects you to change your mind on "Global Issues" based on this film. It's not a message movie, where you are expected to go out and change your life to live by the teachings of Larry the Cable Guy. It's just meant to be an entertainment. A chance to feel better, laugh, and leave the world behind for an hour or so.
In this day and age, with all the crap going on in the world, I think we need to see more of Larry the Cable Guy and more of Cedric the Entertainer and less of Oliver Stone.
Yea Larry!!!!! |
