I went to see Redbelt, understanding it was more of a drama (acting) than it was about martial arts. What really got to me as a viewer of movies, was the excellent acting by all the cast members, especially Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mike Terry. He is a man of honour who sticks to the codes of the Samaurai, irregardless of the external circumstances that happen around him in his life, namely the poor cash flow being generated by his studio business, and the constant nagging of his wife (Alice Braga) to make more money. He is dedicated to no ends for his cop friend (Joe - played by Max Martini), he has a nice staff coach called Snowflake and he also has to deal with Movie studio types after a chance encounter with Tim Allen (playing a action movie star)
Anyways...
He makes the right moral decisions, but in this film we see making the right moral decisions are sometimes not the decisions that allow you to achieve that naturally desired material outcomes we have become accustomed to in our fast paced lifestyle. .....
..But...
In the end his morals and his ethics pay off. Even though at some points in the movie you wish he would abandon his high standing to do what is necessary to move on with life. He will receive the biggest reward.
Excellent movie. |
