I enjoyed this movie. I felt that it was very original. Very few movies these days really deal with the true core and spirit of the martial arts. Most martial arts movies have are based on some sort of revenge. This movie dealt with a man who morally and spiritually lived the life of a martial artist. But, martial artist who are truly dedicated to the spirit of the arts are generally poor businessmen. The movie definitely hit that point correctly. The main character Mike Terry was pushed into a situation where that traditional lifestyle was threatened. Everyone around him involved with the arts, including his wife were trying to force him to conform to a more commercial and less moral way of living. One of the sub plots in this movie was that a martial arts instructor must help other people overcome problems in their life through the spirit of this training. Mike Terry helped a woman get pass something devastating in her life, and in return she brought Mike Terry back to reality when he started to give in to the forces that were trying to crush him. Movies like this one and Jet Li's "Fearless" show a side of the martial arts that are rarely seen.
I gave this movie an "A-", because the situation with Mike Terry's wife and Tim Allen's wife's business arrangement and the problem that happened there was left unclear. But, overall I think it was a great movie and plan on buying it when it becomes available. It will bring about good discussions for my martial arts students.
