Saw a sneak on Tuesday.
this film is based on a true story, which always adds an element of depth.
Y'know how you hear people say "they don't make 'em like they used to? This is how they used to make'em.
It's not GREAT, but it does a good job of installing a certain nostalgia, back when baseball was America's favorite pasttime (before football). Sure, it's got the cliche of the underdog team facing a big game showdown, but the subplots keep it moving. Don't expect oscar nods for Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings) or Rachel Leigh Cook (who is gorgeous). Their performances were flat. Tom Arnold almost steals the show as the protagonist's father.
If you want to be on the edge of your seat and have your socks blown off, pass. But if you want to forget about the world for two hours with passable, family friendly entertainment, it's worth $8. |
