This is not your usual holocaust movie. First off, I would recommend having already read the book from which the film is taken, as it will add insight and understanding. But its okay if you haven't read the book. The story is a simple one. A young German boy, whose father happens to be a Nazi officer, moves them to a country house which borders a concentration camp. Young Bruno, who is 8 years old, does not understand what is happening around him. And as he begins to explore the property that surrounds his home, he finds a "farm" enclosed behind a barbed wire fence, and behind the fence, a young boy, also eight, with a shaved head and who is wearing striped pajamas. The two strike up a friendship, and play many games. The last of which, will chill and haunt the audience in the stunning and horrifying conclusion of this little movie. An instant classic. |
