Not as bad as I expected

If you are a HUGE fan of the books, I must warn you not to compare this movie to the books as they are not exactly identical. But then again, the books and the movies are never the same. I actually didn't hate the movie as much as I thought I would since the previews made it look AWFUL. The whole deal with the Namita character totally drove me mad, but I'll get to that later.
For the most part, the storyline of the movie stayed true to the book. I thought the story was a little fast paced and missed a lot of the wit that Georgia has in the book, but again, it's a movie--you can only add in so much humor into 2 hours or so. The whole deal with the boys and the girls being mixed on one school is a bit... eh, but it was understandable why they did it. One BIG mistake they could've avoided was the absence of Jas's fringe. I don't mean to pick on the small things but really, Jas's fringe is CRUCIAL to the series. How else would Georgia go "Shut up, FRINGEY!" without it?
The acting in the movie was pretty decent. The casting was pretty good, actually. I was expecting a lot worse after seeing the previews but they did pretty well in the actual movie. The former Namita and now Ellen (Thank the Lord.)did a decent job but she acted a little more like a Namita than an Ellen. I was waiting for dithery-spaz moments. Georgia was played pretty well, but I think Jas did the best job. And of course, the boys were gorgey~
Overall the movie was pretty good, but not too awesome. I wouldn't have watched it if I wasn't a fan. The ending (the party scene) was pretty cheesy and a little unnecessary but I guess you gotta end it like that in a Nickelodeon movie. If you're a Georgia fan, definitely see it since it's nice to see Georgia through a different medium. Remember though! Keep an open mind since the movie's not going to mimic the book. |
