It's certainly a matter of taste, but I very much liked how this was filmed - I disagree with the other poster; the film technique was the best part. It had the feeling of traveling to Viet Nam and walking down the streets ... with a nice story thrown in. Yes, much of it was filmed at eye level, but I think this was very intentional, to give the sense of being there.
I've come to thoroughly enjoy movies like this - where the main intention is to show a bit of life in place western audiences aren't familiar with - like a documentary - but with a story thrown in that makes it more engaging. The pace isn't fast, but it gives you time to take in the sights ...
This is one of those movies where you can "taste the soup" - yum! |
