Here is a classic "take the money and run" sequel - a moderately successful and reasonably good film gets a Part 2 that replicates none of the charm nor the novelty of the first one. Nick Cage seems embarressed to be in this one, although his recent foray into Marvel comic territory was even more disasterous (When will he get back on track?). Helen Mirren has some fun, and it's nice to see her in something so lighthearted. But there is no real value here. The cheap sound stage sets, the 30 second "problem solution" format, and the cursory discussion of American history are all major reasons to avoid this film. |
