all hail the direct to DVD werewolf flick!

With such an underwhelming string of PG-13 rated theatrical werewolf films, it is not surprisingly the direct to video market that delivers the goods, ala: Dog soldiers, the Ginger snaps trilogy etc... and now Big bad wolf. This movie is clearly not of a large budget, and because of that.. it has not been tainted by major studios and the ever popular teen friendly ratings system. Its simply a low budget horror movie that does not try to be anything other then that. You've got blood, you've got guts, you've got nudity and last but not least... you've got an incredibly entertaining cheesy monster. Throw in some witty diologue (and some fairly rediculous dilogue as well) and wala! You've got Big bad wolf! This movie is quite frankly a blast, and if campy werewolf movies are'nt your thing.. then I guess you would do best to stay away from this one. Otherwise... anyone fed up with the kiddy hollywood garbage that are mistakenly called horror movies, should look into this film and the ones I mentioned earlier. |
