If you're a 16 year-old girl, and you live in a culture where your parents basically let you raise yourself, it would be helpful if you're creative, daring and wise, like Juno. Well yeah she gets herself knocked up, but this movie isn't about moral quandaries of the past- it's about what you do after you screw up, it's about what you do when the whole world was already screwed up before you even got here. And what Juno does is fight hard to live lightly, to find people worth loving, and to do the right thing, when the right thing to do isn't always apparent. If you're a teenager, Juno's story can help you grow up a bit, grow up in a good way. And if you're a grown-up, her story might help you remember what it was that you were supposed to be looking for in the first place. |
