Neil Marshall, what a lucky-ducky you are. You made the ultimate 80's flick. You stole from the best. You took those elements and leaned into each one. I left that damn near empty theater giddy. "Doomsday" is a blast, sir. A megaton bomb of a blast. I cheered and yelped. I laughed at the excess. But I love that your tongue was complete removed from your cheek. No, unlike "Planet Terror" (which I also dug), you made straight-up 80's sci-fi/action extravaganza. "Doomsday" is an ultra-violent, blood-soaked, super-loud, button-pushing, piece of pop trash that so many will discover at home and love. You stepped into this project fearlessly, Mr. Marshall. I commend you. |
