Mr. Marshall does it again!

Doomsday is the type of film that you simply have to let take you on a ride, does it always make sense? no it doesn't, but is it fun? damn straight it is! I have noticed that some reviwers accuse this film of "ripping off" many previous ideas and themes of films like Mad max, Escape From New York, 28 Days later etc.. and their right, it does rip them off, but it does it knowingly and whole heartedly. Neil Marshall, much like Quentin Tarantino, pays homage to his favorite films in so many ways, be it with dialogue, a certain camera angle, and of course with various themes, but this does not make him a rip off artist. Several actors from Marshall's earlier efforts make appearences here, such as Sean Pertwee, Craig Conway, Nora Jane noone and a few others, but the real star of the show is new comer Rhona Mitra, who is an incredible female badass, make a space Kate Beckinsale and Milla Jovavich! this girl's got style! Critics and viewers alike may be somewhat turned off by the film's level of graphic violence, some of it seemingly senseless (as in the case of a rabbit exploding on screen), but the gore hounds, and I am one of them, will find this film very providing. Now like I said, there are many moments in the movie that don't really make sense, but these things can be easily overlooked in comparison to the broad spectrum of entertainment on display. To put it mildly, Doomsday is over the top! way over the top! (just look at Malcolm Macdowell's character) either you buy it or you don't, I did, and I found it to be one hell of a blood spattered ride! |
