A gritty look at American rage
by Mr. Pink (movies profile)
Jul 13, 2008
I saw this film at the Wisconsin Film Festival, and it was best experiences I've had seeing an independent film. "Shotgun Stories," which is very Coen-esque with its dark themes and spots of quirky comedy, takes us deep into the heart of Arkansas where family takes precedent over all else. Technically, this film is spotless: the cinematography, editing and sound are all outstanding. Michael Shannon does a great job leading this film. It's violent, but not like you would expect. The violence is straight hatred and rage; not gore. As a viewer, there is nothing predictable about this film. Track this one down in a nearby theatre. |
